Tragedy Strikes Gombe: Horrific Auto Crash Claims 10 Lives, Including Mother and Infant

A tragic motor accident on the Kano–Gombe highway on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, claimed the lives of ten passengers, including a woman identified as Nabila Adamu Umaru and her nine-month-old baby, Zahir. In addition to those who died, seven other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, highlighting the severe impact of the crash.

Nabila Adamu Umaru was married to Bello Bajoga and was a mother of two children. At the time of her untimely death, she was actively pursuing her Master’s degree at Bayero University Kano, demonstrating her commitment to education and personal growth. The loss of Nabila and her infant son has deeply affected her family and community.

Funeral prayers for the deceased were held at the Bolari Central Mosque in Gombe, where mourners gathered to pay their respects. A poignant and widely shared photograph depicted Bello Bajoga, Nabila's husband, cradling the lifeless body of his child during the somber funeral proceedings, a heartbreaking image that underscored the profound grief resulting from the accident.
