Doctor's Downfall: Manhasset Physician Sentenced for Sexual Abuse After Queens Charges
A former doctor from Manhasset, Amir Sitafalwalla, 73, was sentenced to six years’ probation by a Queens judge on Wednesday, following his guilty plea last year to sexually abusing patients at an urgent care facility. Judge Gia Morris, who presided over the sentencing, also mandated that Sitafalwalla register as a sex offender. Notably, Sitafalwalla did not express any remorse or speak during the proceedings.
Sitafalwalla pleaded guilty on October 16 to five counts of forcible touching of intimate parts and one count of third-degree sexual abuse. One victim, a 24-year-old man, delivered a powerful impact statement in court, describing Sitafalwalla as "repulsive, perverted, weak, truly the embodiment of a predator." This victim stated he was sexually abused by Sitafalwalla at a ModernMD urgent care clinic in Woodhaven in August 2024. He recounted the trauma and his initial attempt to suppress the experience, ultimately reporting the abuse due to the overwhelming guilt and shame he would feel if Sitafalwalla were to harm a child again. The victim expressed satisfaction that Sitafalwalla would face consequences for his crimes.
Hardeep Shergill, an attorney representing the victim who spoke in court and another alleged victim, noted that her clients were not entirely pleased with the probation sentence given their suffering. However, they found some solace in the fact that Sitafalwalla's medical license could no longer be used to exploit others. Sitafalwalla’s attorney, Kyle Watters, declined to comment on the sentence after the hearing, and representatives for Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz also did not immediately respond to inquiries.
Authorities have identified at least five male victims of Sitafalwalla’s assaults, with suspicions that there may be more. A lawsuit filed in August 2025 detailed allegations that Sitafalwalla had abused another man at the ModernMD clinic prior to the incident involving the victim who testified. Furthermore, the lawsuit revealed Sitafalwalla's termination from CityMD in 2021 for sexually abusing patients in both 2017 and 2020 at its Bayside clinic. Shergill confirmed that CityMD reported these allegations to the New York State Department of Health.
Despite the accumulating allegations, Sitafalwalla did not surrender his medical license until April 2025, according to New York State Department of Health records. The Department of Health’s Office of Professional Medical Conduct initiated an investigation into the CityMD claims in May 2021. The lawsuit further alleged that when Sitafalwalla applied for a position with ModernMD in July 2021, he falsely denied being the subject of an investigation. The lawsuit contended that ModernMD failed in its obligation to conduct a thorough background check before hiring Sitafalwalla, which would have uncovered his history of sexual misconduct. It stated that Sitafalwalla continued to employ "similar methods to target, isolate, assault, and abuse his victims at Modern MD as he did while previously employed at CityMD Bayside."
In response to the revelations, a ModernMD representative conveyed the company's profound disturbance by Sitafalwalla's conduct, asserting their cooperation with authorities. The representative affirmed ModernMD's commitment to patient safety and well-being, emphasizing their dedication to ensuring quality care for patients.
