Tech4Dev, a leading non-profit organization dedicated to digital skills empowerment, advocacy, and adoption across Africa, has successfully concluded the Digital for All Challenge 2.0 (DFA 2.0), marking a significant milestone in digital literacy. This initiative, recognized as Africa's largest digital skilling competition, reached approximately one million Nigerians through extensive awareness campaigns, training programs, assessments, and competitive events across the nation.

Funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and implemented in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), DFA 2.0 was designed as an incentivized national digital literacy and skills-building program. Its primary goal was to equip Nigerians with essential knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world and to enhance their economic livelihoods.

The DFA 2.0 campaign, conceptualized by Tech4Dev, aimed to accelerate digital adoption in Nigeria through an incentivized learning model structured across three main categories: Youth (with Basic and Intermediate levels), Civil Servants, and K-12 for young learners aged 8–18. The Youth Intermediate category further branched into five specialized learning tracks: digital and social media marketing, product design, software development, data analysis, and cybersecurity, providing participants with robust opportunities to develop and showcase their advanced digital skills through competitive challenges.

The competition unfolded in three distinct levels: State, Regional, and the National Grand Finale. Initially, 15,191 participants engaged in state-level assessments, from which 265 individuals progressed to the regional competitions. This rigorous selection process ultimately led to 46 finalists emerging from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, all vying for top honors at the Grand Finale.

During her welcome address at the Grand Finale, Oladiwura Oladepo, Co-founder and Executive Director of Tech4Dev, highlighted the profound vision behind the initiative. She articulated that the DFA campaign originated from a desire to revolutionize the perception and value of education and digital skilling in Africa, aiming for them to be celebrated and rewarded with the same enthusiasm typically reserved for entertainment. Tech4Dev's mission is to offer transformative and substantial prizes that genuinely inspire and motivate individuals to pursue digital literacy, thereby unlocking their potential and driving economic transformation across the continent. The ultimate aim is to empower individuals, uplift families, and strengthen nations by equipping Africans with future-ready digital skills, positioning DFA 2.0 as a bold national movement for inclusive digital empowerment, fostering innovation, and demonstrating the power of meaningful educational rewards to reshape livelihoods and fuel Africa's economic future.

The Grand Finale, held in Abuja, culminated in the recognition of 4 winners and 8 runners-up representing all six geopolitical zones across various categories. These deserving individuals shared a combined prize pool of ₦150 million worth of cash and in-kind prizes, marking one of the largest reward pools ever for a digital skilling initiative in Africa.

In the K-12 category, Abdulhameed Ibrahim from Plateau State secured the win, with Al-Amin Bashir (Kaduna State) and Samuel Urah (Lagos State) as runners-up. The Youth Basic category saw Ahmad Almustapha from Sokoto State emerge victorious, followed by Emmanuel Ajayi (Kwara State) and Olalekan Oladiran (Osun State). Opeyemi Oyebowale from Ogun State triumphed in the Civil Servants category, with OluchiChibueze (Abia State) and Zakariyya Ibrahim (Niger State) as runners-up. The highly competitive Youth Intermediate category, showcasing advanced digital proficiencies, was won by Miracle Michael from Niger State, while Chinedum Chimezie (Imo State) and Ismail Muhammad (Jigawa State) earned second and third place, respectively.

The Grand Finale was graced by key dignitaries and partners whose unwavering support was instrumental to the program's success. Idongesit Udoh, UK International Development Digital Access Programme Adviser, represented the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), underscoring the UK’s commitment to advancing youth employability and digital inclusion in Nigeria. Speaking on behalf of FCDO, Idongesit emphasized the critical need to bridge the significant digital skills gap for Nigeria's growth and reiterated FCDO's pride in supporting initiatives that expand opportunities for young people in the digital economy.

The Honourable Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing digital skills as a cornerstone for job creation, youth empowerment, and national development. She stated that the Federal Government recognizes the central role digital skills play in shaping the future of work and is dedicated to equipping Nigeria’s workforce with future-ready skills that align with global labor market demands, fostering stronger collaborations to scale such initiatives.

Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Director of Stakeholder Management at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), also highlighted the agency’s crucial role as a strategic partner in driving digital literacy across Nigeria. He affirmed that NITDA’s mandate to create an enabling environment for innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital inclusion perfectly aligns with DFA 2.0’s vision of building a digitally empowered society and a knowledge-based economy, pledging continued support for programs that bridge the digital divide.

The School of Computing at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), served as the official Assessment Quality Validation Partner, further reinforcing the credibility and transparency of the competition through its independent oversight. Partners lauded Tech4Dev for leading one of Nigeria’s most impactful digital literacy programs, recognizing DFA 2.0 as a landmark initiative that broadened access to digital skills and prepared participants for global competitiveness.

A notable highlight of DFA 2.0 was the Civil Servants category, specifically designed to build institutional capacity and enhance public service delivery. This was achieved by equipping government workers with vital digital skills essential for a 21st-century workforce, thereby promoting more effective and efficient service provision through improved digital literacy. Tech4Dev remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding digital literacy, strengthening institutions, and empowering Nigerians to thrive in the digital economy.
