Jibrin Issues Stern Warning: NDC Faces Defeat in 2027, Tinubu Critics Beware!
A House of Representatives member, Abdulmumini Jibrin, has accused NDC supporters of deliberately creating tension in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections through the burning of campaign symbols. Jibrin warned that APC supporters would retaliate against any acts of ridicule targeting President Tinubu, the governor, or the party, viewing their response as necessary self-defense.
Abdulmumini Jibrin, a distinguished member of the House of Representatives, has strongly accused supporters of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating a deliberate campaign to create political tension in Kano, particularly with an eye on the forthcoming 2027 general elections. Jibrin voiced these grave allegations during an interview on Channels Television’s 'Politics Today' programme, following a series of contentious incidents involving the destruction of campaign symbols by rival political factions in the state.
The spark for this escalating political friction was ignited when NDC supporters reportedly burned a cap emblazoned with President Bola Tinubu’s signature and the iconic broom symbol of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This act of overt provocation was not left unanswered, as APC supporters in Kano swiftly retaliated by burning Kwankwansiya signature caps, symbols deeply associated with the NDC political movement and its prominent leader, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
In his reaction to these unfolding events, Jibrin asserted that the NDC is acutely aware of its projected defeat in the 2027 election within Kano, especially in the crucial Kano South zone, which he characterized as a key swing region. He elaborated on his conviction, stating, "They (NDC) know they are going to lose the election... particularly in that particular zone, which is Kano South, which is key, they know that there is no how and there is nothing they can do on earth to win Kano South." Jibrin unequivocally views these actions as a premeditated strategy by the NDC to "start off a crisis and to create confusion" just prior to the official commencement of campaigns, a tactic he firmly vowed the APC would not tolerate or allow to gain traction.
Further articulating the APC's resolute position, Jibrin issued a stern warning that the party's supporters in Kano would not hesitate to retaliate against any form of attack or provocation directed at President Bola Tinubu, the state governor, or the APC itself. He emphasized the party's unwavering commitment to defending its leadership and symbols, declaring, "We will retaliate because we will not allow anybody to ridicule our president or our governor or our party. We will never allow that. Never, we will not." Jibrin framed the APC's anticipated response as a necessary act of "self-defense" within the political arena. He underscored that while the APC does not actively seek conflict, they will not permit the continuous burning of their campaign caps or the public ridicule of their esteemed leaders and party. "We don’t create trouble in Kano. We don’t look for trouble. All we do is that we just campaign. We’re minding our business. We don’t throw abuses at them. We know them very well," Jibrin added, firmly reiterating that the APC would not remain passive in the face of such aggressive and destabilizing acts.
