Tragedy Strikes: Deadly Rain Claims Two Children, Destroys Homes in Jigawa!

Tragedy struck the Gandun Sarki Community in Malam Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State when heavy rainfall led to a devastating building collapse, resulting in the deaths of two children and the hospitalization of several others. The incident occurred on Friday night, as reported by Malam Suma’ila, the father of the deceased children, who stated that the room where his children were sleeping gave way during the downpour.

The torrential rainfall, which lasted for over an hour across parts of the Hadejia Senatorial District, caused widespread destruction, demolishing numerous houses and displacing many residents. The two young victims, aged five and eight, perished in the collapse, while other family members were successfully rescued and transported to Hadejia General Hospital for urgent medical attention. Initial assessments indicate that more than 20 houses in the community were either completely destroyed or severely damaged by the intense precipitation and subsequent flooding.

In the aftermath of the disaster, residents are appealing for immediate assistance. Sani Abubakar, whose home was completely destroyed, made a heartfelt plea to the Jigawa State Government for urgent support to the affected families. The community also urged the government to prioritize strengthening drainage infrastructure and providing comprehensive aid to households impacted by the disaster, aiming to prevent similar future tragedies and help victims recover from their significant losses. Efforts to obtain a statement from the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) proved unsuccessful at the time of this report.
