Nadia Farès, the esteemed Moroccan-French actress renowned for her role in the film “The Crimson Rivers,” has passed away at the age of 57. Her daughters, Cylia and Shana Chasman, confirmed that she died of cardiac arrest on Friday, April 17, following a period in a coma. In a statement to Agence France-Presse, they expressed their profound sorrow, stating, “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Farès this Friday. France has lost a great artist, but for us, it is above all a mother whom we have just lost.”

The tragic circumstances leading to her death began on April 11, when Farès was discovered unconscious in a swimming pool at the private sports complex of Blanche in Paris. A fellow swimmer intervened, rescuing her and attempting resuscitation with CPR before she was transported to Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. There, she was placed into an artificially induced coma, which continued until she ultimately suffered cardiac arrest six days later. Le Figaro, a French newspaper, reported that an investigation has been launched into the cause of her injuries, though “no offense has been identified at this stage.”

Born on December 20, 1968, in Marrakesh, Nadia Farès spent her formative years in Nice before relocating to Paris to pursue her passion for film. Her cinematic journey began in 1992 with her debut in “My Wife’s Girlfriends.” However, it was her compelling performance in the 2000 police thriller “The Crimson Rivers,” where she starred alongside acclaimed actors Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel under the direction of Mathieu Kassovitz, that catapulted her to widespread recognition and cemented her status in French cinema.

Throughout her career, Farès showcased her versatility in various genres. She took on the role of Agent Jade Kinler in the 2007 action-thriller “War” and delivered a memorable performance as Pia in the 2007 horror film “Storm Warning.” In 2009, Farès took a hiatus from her acting career, moving to the United States after marrying Los Angeles-based producer Steve Chasman. During this period, she and Chasman welcomed two daughters, Cylia and Shana.
