Suspect arrested in murder of 65-year-old woman, stolen vehicle recovered

Detectives from the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Abubakar Iliyasu for the alleged murder of 65-year-old Mrs Jane Okoye on April 2, 2025, in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect forcibly entered the victim’s premises and fled with her Toyota Sienna vehicle. Mrs Okoye was found unconscious and was rushed to a medical facility, where she later died.

The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation. A team of homicide detectives deployed intelligence and technical resources to track the suspect and recover the stolen property.

The breakthrough came when the suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, was located and arrested in Ankpa, Kogi State. The stolen vehicle was also recovered in good condition and has been secured as evidence for the ongoing investigation.

The suspect is currently in custody at the SCID, Yaba, where he is assisting investigators with useful information. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command,, assured the public that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding life and property across the state.
