Aide Condemns Mass Defection as Political Coup

Victor Ojei, a former Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, pro-democracy activists, civil society groups, and youth bodies to resist what he describes as an attempt by the Oborevwori-led All Progressives Congress (APC) to establish a political monopoly in the state. Ojei resigned his appointment after Oborevwori, Ifeanyi Okowa, and other PDP members defected to the APC.
In a statement to Naija News, Ojei characterized the defections as a political coup against the people of Delta State, alleging that corrupt elites are trying to hijack the state and subject democracy to a one-party tyranny. He urged all Deltans to oppose this alleged plot.
Ojei, also the lead activist of the Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, stated, "Fellow Deltans and Nigerians, we, the Young Nigerian Rights Organisation, are raising the alarm on the looming threat of political monopoly and democratic suffocation in Delta State, following the shameless and unprincipled alignment of a section of PDP with the very party APC they once branded a disaster."
He continued, "The recent mass defection is not only an act of betrayal; it is a political coup against the people of Delta State and a desperate move by corrupt elites to hijack our state and enslave our democracy under one-party tyranny." He emphasized his rejection of the "APC-PDP unholy marriage" and pledged to stand with the people and the true PDP.
Ojei explained that his actions are aimed at preventing Nigeria and Delta State from descending into a one-party dictatorship by 2027. He announced plans to mobilize a strong opposition coalition, uniting patriots, defenders of democracy, and political forces dedicated to truth and service, with the goal of rescuing Delta State and ultimately unseating the APC at the federal level through democratic means.
Ojei concluded his statement with a call to action: "We invite every concerned Delta citizen to stand with us. The battle lines are drawn. Delta is not for sale. We are not for sale. And the people will have the final say."
