Prime suspect in Orile murder nabbed in Kogi, stolen vehicle recovered

Lagos State Police detectives have arrested the main suspect in the brutal murder of 65-year-old Jane Okoye, which occurred on April 2, 2025, in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos.

According to Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, forcibly entered the victim’s home and fled the scene with her Toyota Sienna and personal belongings. The victim was found unconscious and later died at a medical facility.

The case was assigned to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, where homicide detectives launched a full-scale investigation using both technical and intelligence methods. Their efforts led to the arrest of Iliyasu in Ankpa, Kogi State. The stolen vehicle was also recovered in good condition.

Currently, Iliyasu is being detained at SCID, Yaba, and is cooperating with investigators.

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, assured the public that the suspect will face prosecution and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring safety and justice.
