Suspect arrested for alleged murder of 65-year-old woman in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman, Jane Okoye, in the Orile-Iganmu area. The arrest occurred after an extensive manhunt that led to his capture in Kogi State.
According to a statement by Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, Iliyasu was apprehended by detectives from the Homicide Section of the police following an investigation into the crime.
The suspect is now being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further questioning.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had forcibly gained access to the victim’s premises and fled with her Toyota Sienna vehicle. The victim was found unconscious and taken to a medical facility where she later passed on,” Hundeyin stated.
The case, which was initially handled by local authorities, was transferred to the SCID for a more thorough investigation. The homicide detectives used a combination of intelligence and technical resources to locate the suspect.
Hundeyin confirmed that Iliyasu had taken the victim’s vehicle and other personal belongings when he fled Lagos.
He was apprehended in possession of the stolen items, and the vehicle has since been recovered in good condition, with authorities securing it as evidence.
In the statement, Lagos State Police Commissioner Olohunde Jimoh reassured the public that Iliyasu would be charged in court once investigations were completed.
