Political Quake: CPC Chairmen Uncover Mass Defections from Tinubu's APC

The Forum of State Chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC) has brought to light significant internal issues within the All Progressives Congress (APC), primarily revolving around allegations of neglect towards its bloc. In a statement endorsed by key leaders including National Chairman Kasim Mabo, National Secretary Sulaiman Oyaremi, and regional coordinators Olalekan Obolo (South West), Enyinnaya Ibiam Nnachi (South East), and Ahmad Dawayo (North East and North West), the Forum aimed to clarify the ongoing divisions.
Contrary to prior reports of a broad endorsement, the Forum explicitly denied throwing its collective weight behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for the upcoming general elections. It was revealed that while 16 out of the 37 members within the Forum have indeed committed their allegiance to the former Vice President, a larger contingent of 20 members remains firmly dedicated to the APC and supports President Bola Tinubu for a fresh mandate. The statement also acknowledged the loss of one member from Borno State.
A core grievance articulated by the Forum is the continued marginalisation and neglect experienced by the CPC bloc within the ruling APC. Despite their integral role in the coalition that established the APC and brought it to power, the CPC bloc contends it has been overlooked in appointments and recognition. The Forum also disclosed facing considerable pressure, including financial gratification, from opposition leaders, which they stated led nine of their members to defect months prior, with another seven joining them recently, finding the pressure increasingly difficult to resist.
The Forum underscored the critical need for the Presidency and the APC leadership to urgently reflect upon and address the growing sense of alienation among the CPC bloc, particularly its State Chairmen. They emphasized their foundational importance as the direct link to the grassroots structures that were crucial in establishing the CPC's national relevance and in securing the significant 12.5 million votes attributed to former President Buhari.
Reiterating their unwavering loyalty and support for the leadership of the defunct CPC bloc, which includes figures such as former Nasarawa and Katsina states governors Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Aminu Bello Masari, alongside the current Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, the Forum affirmed its resolve to seek better patronage. The statement concluded with a prayer for divine guidance for the President and all leaders.
