PiggyVest Users Fume Over Prolonged 'Network Error' Downtime

Users of PiggyVest, a prominent Nigerian digital savings and investment platform, faced an unexpected service disruption on a quiet Wednesday morning, finding themselves unable to access the application. Attempts to log in were met with persistent “network error” messages, leading to widespread anxiety and frustration among its user base. One long-time user, @ese_osa__, described the experience: “I was not able to access the app during the downtime. It kept saying ‘network error’ for a few hours.”
The outage had immediate repercussions, particularly for individuals who depend on the platform for urgent financial transactions. @ese_osa__ further noted, “Yes, the downtime affected transactions. It affected my morning because I am meant to pay someone.” This highlights the critical role such fintech platforms play in daily financial activities.
In response to the service interruption, PiggyVest issued a public statement to its users: “Hello 👋 We experienced a brief downtime earlier this morning. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered while accessing the app. The issue has now been fully resolved, and you can log in successfully. Thank you for your patience. 🙏” This apology was acknowledged by Odunayo Eweniyi, co-founder and COO of PiggyVest.
Despite the inconvenience, many users, like @ese_osa__, demonstrated continued trust in the platform. “No, I did not receive any notifications [for the downtime], and I did not reach out. I trust PiggyVest a lot, and I know whatever is happening is just temporary,” @ese_osa__ stated, adding, “I have been using PiggyVest for over five years now, and I have not had any issues regarding my funds. Issues like this don’t make me anxious or lose interest in them.” This sentiment was echoed by others on social media, with @Linzkits_FC asserting, “piggyvest is a reliable and registered brand, your finances are safe,” and @therealkaykerry declaring, “Piggyvest has my vote of confidence… I know nothing would happen to my money there!”
However, this incident is not entirely unprecedented. PiggyVest has encountered similar technical challenges in the past. In September 2019, the digital savings company experienced network glitches that prevented user access, which they then attributed to issues with specific network providers. More concerning are accounts of more severe issues, such as a Nairaland user's report of a failed ₦70,600 withdrawal that escalated into a frustrating ordeal involving complications and unhelpful customer service responses. This user concluded, “This entire experience has left me feeling betrayed and cheated. I trusted PiggyVest with my hard-earned money, only to be met with obstacles and indifference when I needed both my money and their assistance.” Such experiences raise questions about the reliability and responsiveness of customer support during critical junctures.
Reactions to the recent downtime on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) varied widely. While some users expressed frustration over login failures and unreflected transactions, such as @cheexom, @TheSophiiee, and @kettybank, others like @winnerthegirl downplayed the severity. Conversely, some users voiced strong negative opinions, with @Emmanuel_ped stating, “Piggyvest is hack prone. Don’t use them. Lost money on that app, many people do too.”
Despite these challenges and the mixed user sentiments, many continue to support the fintech entity, recognizing its significant role in promoting savings and financial discipline. As @ese_osa__ positively noted, “I feel like PiggyVest is better because when I send an email or reach out on social media, I get a response that my issue will be resolved soon,” indicating that responsive communication can still foster user loyalty despite occasional technical hitches.
