BTS's Future Unveiled: Members Vow to Stay Together 'Into Our 60s' Despite RM's Disbandment Doubts

Global sensation BTS is gearing up for a significant comeback with their new album, "Arirang," slated for release on March 20. Ahead of this highly anticipated return, members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook shared their profound hopes for the band's future and insights into navigating the pressures of their return to the spotlight.
A central theme expressed by the band is their aspiration for long-term longevity. In a cover story interview with GQ published on February 13, Suga articulated a strong desire to continue performing together well into their older years. He stated, "If we can keep this going, then maybe we can be dancing in our 60s… as long as we’re willing – I think maybe into our 50s, into our 60s – we can always be together as a band. Maybe it’ll be a little bit hard on our knees. But I think we can do that." This sentiment highlights their renewed clarity about the future, strengthened by doubling down on their friendships and professional relationships during the album's creation, blocking out distractions.
The journey back has not been without its challenges. The Bangtan Boys openly discussed the immense pressure of returning with new music and a world tour after a years-long break, which saw them pursuing solo opportunities and fulfilling their mandatory military enlistments in South Korea. RM, the group's leader, candidly admitted in a December livestream that he had considered "thousands of times" whether it would be "better for the team to disband or go on hiatus" due to the overwhelming stress of living up to the band's pre-military success, particularly following their 2020 Billboard 200-topping album "Be."
RM's vulnerability resonated deeply with his bandmates. Jimin interpreted RM's revelation as a form of "love language to ARMY," underscoring how emotionally invested RM is in both the group and their fanbase. V further emphasized RM's pivotal role, stating, "RM is like the identity of this group. He’s the core leader of the group, so he must feel so much more pressure than the rest of us do."
The period of separation during their break also took an emotional toll on the members. V recalled a group hangout "before we all got discharged from the military service" where Jung Kook became particularly emotional, "He bawled," V recounted. "Jung Kook cried because he really wanted to be on stage, and he just really wanted to perform." This moment underscored their shared passion for performing and the bond that ties them together.
Following the release of "Arirang," BTS is set to embark on a highly anticipated world tour, commencing in April with a series of shows in Goyang, South Korea. The extensive tour is expected to continue through the better part of March 2027, with planned stops across the United States, Europe, Australia, Asia, and more. Fans worldwide will also have opportunities to experience the concerts live, with simultaneous screenings of one of the Goyang concerts and a Tokyo concert slated for theaters in April.
