Miracle Comeback: 'Coyote vs. Acme' Resurrected, Drops Explosive First Trailer!

Initially condemned to the vaults in 2023, the live-action/animation hybrid film Coyote vs. Acme is now set for a theatrical release on August 28, three years after its shelving. The first trailer for the movie has been released, promising to finally give the iconic Wile E. Coyote his long-awaited day in court against the notorious Acme Corporation.
The film's premise revolves around Wile E. Coyote, once again frustrated by a faulty Acme product in his relentless pursuit of the Road Runner. This time, however, he decides to escalate his grievances beyond the endless canyons, enlisting the help of lawyer Kevin Avery (played by Will Forte). Avery has a history of successful class-action lawsuits against Acme, and with his niece Paige (Lana Condor) convincing him to aim for a significant victory, he takes on the formidable Acme flack Buddy Crane (John Cena) in court.
The courtroom drama is not limited to just Coyote; the trailer teases appearances from other beloved animated icons such as Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and Foghorn Leghorn. Bugs Bunny also makes a cameo as a 'Deep Throat'-like informant, hinting at dark secrets within the Acme Corporation that could turn the tide of the trial.
The journey of Coyote vs. Acme to theaters has been a dramatic one. As part of a cost-cutting initiative at Warner Bros., the nearly complete film was initially shelved, sparking an outpouring of outrage from those involved and audiences who had seen early screenings. Unlike other tax write-offs such as Batgirl, Warner Bros. opted to put Coyote vs. Acme up for sale. After initial struggles to find a studio willing to meet WB's price, the film, alongside another Looney Tunes project The Day the Earth Blew Up, was eventually acquired by Ketchup Entertainment. While The Day the Earth Blew Up was released in 2024, Coyote vs. Acme will finally reach audiences this summer.
Directed by Dave Green (known for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), the script for Coyote vs. Acme was penned by Samy Burch (May December), with a story credit shared by Burch, Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), and James Gunn (Superman). The movie draws its inspiration from the satirical article of the same name by Ian Frazier, which originally appeared in The New Yorker in 1990. The film's theatrical release is set for August 28, 2026.
