Queen of Pop Returns: Madonna Drops 'I Feel So Free' from Anticipated 'Confessions II'

Madonna has officially confirmed the upcoming release of her new album, “Confessions II,” bringing the Queen of Pop back to the dance floor this summer. Just days after this announcement, the first full taste of the album, a track titled “I Feel So Free,” was unveiled. Prior to its general availability on Digital Streaming Platforms (DSPs), iHeartRadio’s Pride Radio exclusively debuted the song on Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m. ET, playing it on the hour throughout the day. Madonna even recorded a special audio message for the LGBTQ radio station.

“I Feel So Free” is described as a propulsive, driving dance song that echoes the rhythm of Lil Louis’ 1989 house classic “French Kiss.” It seamlessly fits within the continued sonic landscape of her 2005 disco-pop masterpiece, “Confessions on a Dance Floor,” specifically evoking the track “Future Lovers” from that album.

“Confessions II” marks a significant reunion for Madonna with producer Stuart Price, who also produced the original “Confessions on a Dance Floor.” Price recently served as the music producer for Madonna's highly successful 2023-2024 The Celebration Tour. The pair had been hinting at new music together through social media teasers, with Price coyly remarking on the ease with which their working relationship resumed. This week, Madonna officially confirmed that “Confessions II” is set to drop on July 3 via Warner Bros., with label representatives confirming that the new song was serviced to radio on Friday morning.

“I Feel So Free” is presented as a pre-album release, arriving ahead of the album's official lead single, which has yet to be announced. A countdown on Spotify for “Confessions II” indicates that the album will feature 16 tracks. Recalling the original “Confessions on a Dance Floor,” which was available in both standard album format with discrete tracks and a “non-stop mix,” Madonna's website lists a 12-track vinyl LP with a “non-stop mix” for “Confessions II,” as well as a 16-track, 2-vinyl LP set featuring a “continuous album mix.”
