Peter Obi Intervenes in 'Obidient' Rift, Visits Isaac Fayose to Quell Attacks
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the NDC, visited his supporter Isaac Fayose in Abuja following a controversy surrounding Fayose's meeting with President Tinubu's son. Fayose had faced backlash for the meeting but reaffirmed his 'one million percent Obidient' stance after a phone call and personal visit from Obi.
Presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, recently visited his prominent supporter, Isaac Fayose, in Abuja. This visit came amidst a controversy surrounding Fayose's earlier meeting with President Bola Tinubu's son, Seyi Tinubu, and popular socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, in the Federal Capital Territory. During this meeting, a viral video showed them offering prayers for President Bola Tinubu and the nation, which subsequently drew strong criticism from some of Obi's supporters. These critics alleged that Fayose had been financially compromised due to this interaction.
Responding to the backlash in another widely circulated video, Isaac Fayose vehemently dismissed the allegations of being compromised. He condemned his critics and highlighted his significant sacrifices and contributions to Peter Obi’s presidential ambition since 2023. Fayose, a popular businessman and public affairs commentator, expressed frustration with the lack of appreciation for his efforts, even threatening to withdraw his support for the Obidient Movement.
Less than 24 hours after Fayose's public outburst, Peter Obi personally visited the businessman at his Abuja residence on a Saturday. A video shared on Fayose’s Instagram page depicted the former Anambra State governor engaging in a light-hearted conversation with Fayose. Addressing the online attacks, Obi suggested that many of those behind the online criticisms were not genuine supporters, stating, “Half of the people that abused you don’t follow us. What they do is hire people to call others all sorts of names.”
Following these events, Isaac Fayose confirmed he had a telephone conversation with Peter Obi. In a video posted on his Facebook fan page, Fayose stated, “Four hours ago, my leader, Peter Obi called me. His Excellency said 'sorry about your wife. I’m in Lagos tonight or tomorrow morning, I will be in your house.'” Fayose also reaffirmed his unwavering commitment, declaring himself “one million percent Obidient.” He further articulated his stance by saying, “I love Tinubu’s family but Nigeria belongs to Nigerians and they are saying enough is enough. It’s time for change.” This series of interactions solidified the relationship between Peter Obi and Isaac Fayose amidst political tensions and public scrutiny.
