Affordable Future: Ram's 2027 ProMaster City Van Hits Market Under $40,000

The 2027 Ram ProMaster City Van is making a significant return to the United States market after its retirement in 2022, positioned as the nation's most affordable commercial van. Addressing a notable scarcity of new vans, particularly compact models, the ProMaster City offers a viable commercial solution with a compelling starting price.

Starting at just $39,995 for the base Tradesman Cargo grade, the 2027 ProMaster City is priced well below the current average for a new car. The full pricing structure for the lineup is as follows: the Ram ProMaster City Tradesman Cargo is $39,995, the Tradesman Passenger Wagon is $42,695, the SLT Cargo model is $41,495, and the SLT Passenger Wagon is $44,195.

The van is offered in two primary trims, Tradesman and SLT, both available in either cargo or passenger configurations to suit diverse commercial needs. Standard features across all models include a digital rearview mirror, a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and heated front seats. Upgrading to the SLT trim enhances the vehicle with additional amenities such as front parking sensors, a wireless phone charger, a heated steering wheel, fog lamps, body-color fascias, and 17-inch two-tone aluminum wheels.

Powering all versions of the 2027 Ram ProMaster City is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering a claimed 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. This power is routed to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. The van boasts a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, matching its payload capacity. A key design philosophy behind the ProMaster City, as highlighted by Stellantis, is its ability to fit into most urban garages, emphasizing its compact and agile nature essential for city-based operations.

While other commercial van options exist, such as the larger Ram ProMaster, Ford Transit, Chevy Express, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, these alternatives are generally more expensive, with starting prices typically ranging from $45,000 to $50,000 and above. Production of the 2027 ProMaster City is scheduled to commence later this year, with Stellantis anticipating the vans will begin arriving at dealerships in the first quarter of 2027.
