King of Pop Reigns: Michael Jackson Hits Dominate Charts Post-'Michael' Premiere

The highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, "Michael," has made a significant impact on Billboard’s Top Movie Songs chart, powered by Tunefind (a Songtradr company), with four classic Michael Jackson tracks debuting on the April 2026 list. The chart, which considers newly released films from the preceding three months and exceptions for music with high public interest, bases its rankings on song and film data from Tunefind combined with sales and streaming information tracked by Luminate during the corresponding period.
Released on April 24, the film’s brief window within the April 2026 tracking period was sufficient to trigger substantial catalog gains for both Michael Jackson and his family groups, Jackson 5/The Jacksons. Jackson secured four solo appearances on the chart. Leading this impressive quartet is "Billie Jean," which peaked at No. 3 on the chart, demonstrating its enduring popularity with 32.9 million chart-eligible streams and 4,000 downloads in the United States in April 2026, as reported by Luminate. Following "Billie Jean" are other iconic tracks also featured in the biopic: "Beat It" at No. 5 (21.2 million streams, 3,000 downloads), "Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough" at No. 7 (18 million streams, 3,000 downloads), and "Thriller" at No. 10 (11.8 million streams, 2,000 downloads).
Despite the strong showing from the "Michael" biopic, it was unable to displace the reigning chart-topper, "Golden" by HUNTR/X, from the film "KPop Demon Hunters." "Golden" continues its dominance, having ruled the Top Movie Songs chart for months since its parent movie premiered in June 2025. In April 2026, it maintained its stronghold with an impressive 65.1 million streams and 9,000 downloads, even achieving a peak rank of No. 6 on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 during the same month. Notably, "KPop Demon Hunters" saw its fewest entries since July 2025, with only four songs reaching the April 2026 chart.
The April 2026 chart also showcased other significant entries from various films. Harry Styles’ "Sign of the Times" from "Project Hail Mary" secured the No. 2 spot, while Shakira’s "Zoo" from "Zootopia 2" landed at No. 4. Additional tracks from "KPop Demon Hunters" included "Soda Pop" by Saja Boys at No. 6, and two more by HUNTR/X, "How It’s Done" at No. 8 and "What It Sounds Like" at No. 9, rounding out the top ten alongside the Michael Jackson classics.
