Amakhosi Overhaul: Kaizer Chiefs Confirms Major Exits and New Signings
Kaizer Chiefs are undergoing a significant squad overhaul, confirming five departures including experienced midfielder Gaston Sirino. Under new coach Fernando Da Cruz, the club is streamlining its roster while also reportedly welcoming new talents to Naturena.
Kaizer Chiefs are actively reshaping their squad during the current transfer window, with a focus on streamlining the team ahead of the 2026/27 campaign under the guidance of new coach Fernando Da Cruz. The club has now confirmed a total of five departures, aiming to optimize its roster for the upcoming season.
The latest and perhaps most significant departure is that of experienced Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Sirino, who has left Naturena after two seasons. The 35-year-old featured in 52 appearances across all competitions for Amakhosi, netting five goals during his tenure. Sirino is widely expected to join newly promoted Durban City on a free transfer following his exit. Kaizer Chiefs officially announced his farewell in a statement on Monday, expressing their sincere gratitude. The club stated, “As Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to Gaston Sirino, the Club would like to express sincere gratitude to Papi for his dedication and contribution over the past two seasons. The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since he arrived at the Club. We thank Gaston for his commitment and passion, as well as all the memories he leaves behind at Naturena.”
Sirino’s exit marks the fifth confirmed player to depart during this off-season. Earlier announcements included the release of striker Tashreeq Morris, who found it challenging to establish himself at the club after his move from SuperSport United. Long-serving duo Happy Mashiane and George Matlou were also released, having struggled to secure consistent game time. Mashiane spent the last season on loan at Siwelele FC, while Matlou's previous campaign was hampered by injury, limiting him to only sporadic appearances.
Defender Aden McCarthy was the first player to depart in this window, completing a transfer to Azerbaijani side Sabah FK last month, marking an international move for the young talent. While these players have officially moved on, the future of forward Ashley Du Preez remains unresolved, as he continues to be linked with a potential return to Stellenbosch FC.
In addition to these departures, Kaizer Chiefs have also reportedly welcomed new faces to Naturena, signaling a comprehensive overhaul of the squad as they prepare for the new challenges ahead.
