Mass Exodus Rocks Bauchi APC: Deputy Chairman Defects to PRP for 2027 Governorship Battle!
The Bauchi State APC chapter faces a major setback as its deputy chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Makama Misau, and other executives defect to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). Citing a lack of internal democracy and imposed candidates, the move strengthens the PRP ahead of the 2027 governorship election. This shift is expected to reshape the state's political landscape.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State has experienced a significant setback with the defection of its deputy chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Makama Misau, along with other local government and ward executives from Misau Local Government Area. These former APC officials have joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in anticipation of the 2027 governorship election, marking a pivotal moment in the state's political landscape.
Hon. Ibrahim Makama Misau, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives representing the Misau/Dambam Federal Constituency, announced his resignation from the APC. He and the other defecting party executives cited the persistent imposition of unpopular candidates and a profound absence of internal democracy within the APC as their primary reasons for leaving. It is notable that Misau Local Government is also the home of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, adding a layer of local political significance to the defections.
The group has declared their unwavering support for Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the PRP's 2027 governorship candidate. They framed their decision as a crucial step towards fostering justice, fairness, and inclusive leadership across Bauchi State. During a coordinated gathering by Hon. Maiwada Bakoji Misau and Hon. Shehu Dubagari Misau, the defectors characterized their move as a “political awakening” designed to reorient the state’s political direction.
Speaking on behalf of the former APC executives, they further attributed their departure to poor leadership and the neglect of grassroots party members. They emphasized that their choice to join the PRP stems from a belief that politics should inherently be about service to humanity, empowerment, and meaningful development. The group expressed strong confidence in Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s commitment to grassroots engagement and community development. A substantial number of the defectors originate from Ajili/Gugulin Ward in Misau Local Government Area, which is also Professor Ali Pate's ward.
The new PRP members have pledged to actively mobilize support for the party ahead of the 2027 general election, claiming that thousands of APC members across Bauchi State have already left the ruling party. In response, Senator Shehu Buba Umar warmly welcomed the new members, assuring them of equal opportunities and active participation within the PRP. He reaffirmed the PRP’s dedication to justice, unity, transparency, and people-oriented leadership, positioning the party as a credible alternative for the people of Bauchi. He further called for unity and commitment among party supporters as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
Political analysts and observers are of the view that these latest defections could significantly bolster the PRP’s burgeoning presence in Bauchi State, potentially reshaping the political landscape and dynamics in the run-up to the crucial 2027 governorship election.
