Will Forte Speaks Out After Warner Bros. Shelves ‘Coyote vs. Acme’

Actor Will Forte has expressed a mix of "extreme frustration, fiery frustration, a lot of anger, white hot anger" over Warner Bros.'

initial decision to shelve the film "Coyote vs. Acme."

Despite his disappointment, Forte said he is proud of the film and hopes its difficult journey will attract more attention when it is finally released.

He acknowledged the possibility that "everything happens for a reason," but firmly stated that the film "didn't need this crazy journey."

The controversy over “Coyote vs. Acme” began in November 2023 when Warner Bros. canceled its $70 million hybrid film, reportedly to claim a $30 million tax write-off.

The decision drew industry backlash and followed similar criticism the studio faced for shelving projects like “Batgirl” and “Scoob! Holiday Haunt.” The film had been set for a July 21, 2023, theatrical release.

The film stars John Cena, Lana Condor, and Forte as Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, with a screenplay by Samy Burch of “May December.”

Forte shared his journey with “Coyote vs. Acme,” admitting he hadn’t seen it when it was first shelved.

After watching, he loved it, calling it a “beautiful, special little movie” he wished he could share with his kids.

Four months later, he took to Instagram, acknowledging he didn’t fully understand Hollywood business but insisting the film was “magnificent” despite its cancellation.

In a MovieWeb interview, he called Warner Bros.’ handling of the movie “fucking bullshit,” saying it deserved much better and expressing his frustration at how it was treated.

“Coyote vs. Acme” got a new lease on life after Ketchup Entertainment bought the film for $50 million in March 2025.

The movie is now set to hit theaters on August 28.
