Tragedy Strikes Kwara: Saraki Condemns Forest Guards Killing, Police Confirm Attack

The Kwara State Police Command has officially confirmed a coordinated attack by armed bandits on the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Camp located in Nuku Village, via Kaiama, within the Kaiama Local Government Area of the state. The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026, resulted in the fatal shooting of five members of the National Forest Guards. According to SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, the bandits launched their assault around 03:45hrs, causing extensive damage to a police patrol vehicle before PMF personnel stationed at the camp successfully repelled them.

In the wake of this bloody attack, the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, expressed profound sympathy to the families of the deceased forest guards and vehemently condemned the act of violence. The police command has assured the public that comprehensive tactical and intelligence-driven operations have been initiated to track down and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this heinous crime. Furthermore, continuous monitoring of the security situation is underway to guarantee the safety of residents and prevent any further breaches of security in the area. Residents are urged to collaborate with security agencies by providing any pertinent information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, also weighed in on the incident, strongly condemning the gruesome attack on Nuku village. In a statement released by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, Saraki described the killings of the five forest guards as "barbaric, senseless, and a painful loss" for the affected families and the entire Kwara State. He conveyed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of these "gallant forest guards" who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, emphasizing that their bravery in defending their community would not be forgotten. Saraki offered prayers for the deceased, seeking eternal rest for them in Aljannah Firdaus and forgiveness for any shortcomings, while wishing them the highest place in Paradise.

Dr. Saraki extended his heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Kaiama, the bereaved families, and all the people of the region, calling upon them to remain steadfast and united during this period of grief. He also commended the courageous efforts of both security operatives and local forest guards who were instrumental in repelling the bandit attack. Stressing the critical importance of sustained vigilance and enhanced collaboration among all security stakeholders, Saraki urged for collective action to prevent future occurrences. He appealed to relevant authorities to intensify their efforts in exposing and bringing the perpetrators of this abominable act to justice, concluding with a prayer for enduring peace, protection, and security across Kwara State and the nation at large.

This incident is not an isolated one for the region, as DAILY POST had previously reported a similar invasion on March 22, 2026, when armed bandits attacked Woro and Nuku communities. That earlier assault resulted in the deaths of scores of residents and the abduction of over 170 individuals, who tragically remain in the captivity of the bandits, highlighting a persistent and severe security challenge facing these communities.
