The legendary rock band, The Rolling Stones, has officially announced their 25th studio album, titled "Foreign Tongues," set to be released on July 10. This 14-track LP marks a significant new era for the band, featuring core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood, alongside an impressive roster of guest artists and long-time collaborators.

Recorded in less than a month at Metropolis Studios in West London, the album's swift creation was highlighted by Mick Jagger, who described the process as "very intense" and done "as fast as we could." Ronnie Wood echoed this sentiment, praising the creative atmosphere and the band's strong performance, often nailing takes on the first attempt. Keith Richards also expressed his enjoyment of working in London again, emphasizing the "concentrated punch" of the recording sessions.

"Foreign Tongues" brings together an all-star cast of musical talent. Guest artists include Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, The Cure frontman Robert Smith, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Longtime bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Steve Jordan, who joined the band after the passing of Charlie Watts in 2021, are also featured. Poignantly, the album also incorporates a recording of Charlie Watts playing drums from one of his final studio sessions, ensuring his presence on this new work.

Andrew Watt, who previously collaborated with the Stones on their 2023 album "Hackney Diamonds," returned to produce "Foreign Tongues." Prior to the album's official announcement on May 5, the band teased the project with two releases: the album opener "Rough and Twisted," which was initially released mid-April on vinyl only under the pseudonym "The Cockroaches," and the melodic lead single "In the Stars," which became available on streaming services on May 5.

To celebrate the upcoming Capitol Records release, The Rolling Stones held a launch event across the East River in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a departure from their previous Manhattan-based "Hackney Diamonds" event. The iconic trio, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood, sat down with comedian and podcast host Conan O’Brien at The Weylin, a historic 1875 domed events space that once served as a neighborhood bank. O’Brien, acting as both a wisecracking host and a lifelong fan, facilitated a wide-ranging discussion about the new album.

During the event, O’Brien complimented Jagger's consistent vocals, noting their similarity to his 1968 recordings, to which Jagger jokingly replied about taking a lot of drugs back then. Keith Richards engaged in playful banter, forgetting to use his microphone and quipping to producer Andrew Watt about the venue's acoustics. The discussion also offered insights into the album's high-profile collaborations. Jagger recounted a humorous first meeting with Robert Smith in the studio, where Smith, adorned with lipstick and a long gown, was instantly recognized. "Hackney Diamonds," the Stones' last album, released in 2023, achieved significant success, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Top Album Sales charts. The band embarked on an 18-date tour following its release, generating $235 million. "Foreign Tongues" marks the band's 62nd project to chart, adding to their impressive record of 61 charted projects, including nine No. 1s. While there is currently no word on whether a tour will follow the release of "Foreign Tongues," the anticipation for this new chapter in The Rolling Stones' legendary career is palpable.
