Music Icon Linda Perry Honored with Prestigious Ivor Novello Songwriting Prize

Renowned musician and songwriter Linda Perry, best known as the leader of 4 Non Blondes, is set to receive a prestigious special international songwriter prize at the upcoming Ivor Novello awards. The ceremony will take place in London at the Grosvenor Hotel on May 21, where Perry will be recognized for her profound contributions to music, both with her band and as a prolific songwriter for numerous major artists across the globe.

Perry's illustrious career boasts an impressive catalog of songwriting credits that have left an indelible mark on popular culture. She is credited with the iconic 4 Non Blondes hit “What’s Going On?,” which soared to No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Beyond her work with the band, Perry has penned anthems for some of the biggest names in music. These include Christina Aguilera’s empowering track “Beautiful,” Gwen Stefani’s dynamic hit “What You Waiting For?,” and P!nk’s energetic “Get the Party Started.” Her collaborations extend to a wide array of esteemed artists, featuring work with Adele, Ariana Grande, Celine Dion, and many others, showcasing her versatility and enduring influence.

Her exceptional talent has also been acknowledged by the Grammy Awards, where three of her five nominations to date have been specifically in songwriting categories. Perry received two nominations for Song of the Year, first for her work on Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” and later for co-writing the impactful Alicia Keys-Brandi Carlile collaboration “A Beautiful Noise.” Additionally, she was nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media for co-writing Dolly Parton’s “Girl in the Movies,” further cementing her status as a top-tier songwriter for various mediums.

Expressing her gratitude for the upcoming honor, Linda Perry stated, “It’s an honor to be recognized for my songwriting contributions at the 71st Ivor Novello Awards. So many incredible artists have been celebrated, and I am humbled to be standing alongside them.” Roberto Neri, CEO of the Ivors Academy, echoed this sentiment, adding, “Linda Perry’s songwriting continues to have a profound impact on global popular culture. We are proud to honor her with the special international award at The Ivors, celebrating her incredible music and authentic craft.”

The Ivor Novello Awards, held annually, are dedicated to honoring and recognizing the exceptional talent of songwriters and composers from both the U.K. and the international songwriting community. The recipients of these esteemed prizes are meticulously chosen by a distinguished panel comprising experienced songwriters and composers drawn from the association’s membership. In related news, the academy had previously confirmed on April 29 that Rosalía would be awarded the international songwriter of the year honor, celebrating her 2025 LP, LUX. This acclaimed album features the Catalonian-born artist singing in thirteen languages and masterfully fuses influences from both classical and pop music genres. Earlier in March, the nominations for the awards were announced, with a notable lineup of artists leading with the most nods, including Olivia Dean, Lily Allen, Kae Tempest, and Wolf Alice.
