Sandra Bullock's Social Media Battle: Star Fights Impersonators Defrauding Fans!

Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock recently disclosed on the “SmartLess” podcast, as reported by People, that she was compelled to join social media as a direct response to individuals exploiting her likeness to defraud people of money. Bullock, who launched her Instagram account in April, has since garnered a substantial following of 6 million. While many initially speculated her social media debut was primarily to promote her upcoming film, “Practical Magic 2,” with the majority of her 14 posts relating to the sequel, Bullock clarified that the underlying reason was far more grave.

“About a year and a half ago, I had to because there were people that were using my name and likeness to scam money out of people,” Bullock stated. The severity of the situation became apparent when her sister received communications from victims, saying, “Your sister took thousands of dollars from me.” Bullock highlighted the profound harm inflicted, with families struggling to comprehend the deception. She recounted trying to intervene, telling people, “It’s fake, it’s not real.”

Bullock emphasized her initial aversion to social media, asserting, “I had no intention of ever going on social media. It was never my calling.” She noted that while joining Instagram mitigated the issue “a little bit,” the problem of scammers remains “never-ending.” Her struggle with these fraudulent activities predated her Instagram launch by well over a year. In February 2025, she had previously told People, “my family’s safety, as well as the innocent people being taken advantage of, is my deep concern, and there will be a time when I will comment more, but for now our focus is helping law enforcement handle this matter.” At that time, she explicitly stated, “Please be aware that I do not participate in any form of social media. Any accounts pretending to be me or anyone associated with me are fake accounts and have been created for financial gain or to exploit people around me.”

Concurrently, Bullock is commencing her press tour for “Practical Magic 2,” which marks her return to a leading movie role since her appearance in 2022’s “The Lost City,” although she had a minor supporting role in “Bullet Train” the same year. The film is slated for release on September 10 from Warner Bros.
