Premier League Blocks Crystal Palace's Bold Bid to Reschedule Arsenal Clash for Conference League Final

Crystal Palace made a formal request to the Premier League to move their final day fixture against newly crowned champions Arsenal from Sunday to Saturday. The primary motivation for this appeal was to provide manager Oliver Glasner's squad with an additional day of preparation ahead of their upcoming Conference League final. Palace is scheduled to travel to Leipzig next Wednesday to face Rayo Vallecano in the European final, a match of significant importance given that their Premier League status for next season is already secured and Arsenal have officially clinched the league title.

Glasner confirmed that the club initiated a tentative request, stating, "I asked, we tried to move the game to Saturday because this would help us, this would help us for Wednesday giving us one more day." He further explained the rationale, noting that Rayo Vallecano would be playing on Saturday evening, potentially giving them less recovery time. However, the request was ultimately unsuccessful. Glasner cited reasons such as "contractual issues, TV rights and everyone wants the big final day with the trophy for Arsenal" as contributing factors to the denial.

Reflecting on Arsenal's triumph, Glasner extended his congratulations to the club, Mikel Arteta, his players, and staff for their "huge achievement" in winning the title after 22 years. He also offered special congratulations to former Palace player Eberechi Eze, who now plays for Arsenal. Glasner light-heartedly remarked that Eze "has taken the right decision to go to Arsenal and not to another club," alluding to Eze's failed move to Tottenham Hotspur the previous summer.

Looking ahead to the match against Arsenal, Glasner expressed uncertainty regarding squad rotation, admitting he has "changed my opinion three times a day right now from full rotation to no rotation to half rotation." He highlighted his personal "negative experiences with big rotations" in the past. As an example, he recalled a situation this season where significant changes were made for a Conference League match followed by a league game against Leeds two days later, resulting in "one of our worst performances with on paper 11 fresh players." This past experience influences his cautious approach to squad selection for the upcoming fixture.
