Ethereum's AI Ascendancy: 20% Rally Fuels $2.2B Bitmine Boost as Tom Lee Calls Ether a Core AI Layer!
Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) saw its crypto reserves increase by $2.2 billion due to an Ethereum rally, holding nearly 4.8% of ETH's circulating supply. Despite an unrealized loss on its total investment, the company actively stakes ETH for income. Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee predicts Ethereum will become the "digital oil" and operating system for the future AI economy.
U.S. corporation Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) experienced a significant boost in its crypto reserves, increasing their value by $2.2 billion in a single day. This surge occurred amid a strong Ethereum (ETH) rally that saw the altcoin surpass $2,200. According to CryptoQuant analyst Maartunn, Bitmine emerged as a primary institutional beneficiary of the prevailing market momentum.
Bitmine's latest operational report indicates that its balance sheet holds a substantial 5.815 million ETH, which constitutes nearly 4.8% of Ethereum's total circulating supply. While this portfolio was valued at $11 billion at the start of the week, a subsequent 20% price increase elevated its worth to $13.2 billion.
The company's strategy extends beyond mere holding; Bitmine has consistently purchased ETH every week for over a year and has already staked 87% of its reserves. This staking activity generates an estimated fixed annual income of $250 million. Simultaneously, Bitmine's management is actively engaged in buying back the company's own shares on the stock market.
Despite the recent gains, data from DropsTab reveals that Bitmine's overall portfolio is still facing a global unrealized loss of $6.09 billion, representing 31.25%. This is attributed to a total investment of $19.49 billion in the position, at an average purchase price of $3,357.63 per ETH.
Tom Lee, who serves as Bitmine's chairman and is a co-founder of Fundstrat, believes that Ethereum is poised to become the operating system for AI agents. Lee points to Ethereum's breakout from its multiyear downtrend against Bitcoin, specifically above the 0.02994 level, as a fundamental shift. He suggests that Wall Street is now recognizing ETH's utility value rather than treating it solely as a speculative asset. Lee connects Ethereum's future intrinsically with the advancement of artificial intelligence and robotics, envisioning Ethereum smart contracts as the foundational operating system within a rapidly developing cloud-based "collective intelligence" ecosystem, which includes advanced humanoid robots.
Fundstrat concludes that while investment giants like BlackRock perceive Bitcoin as a passive "digital gold" for inflation protection, Ethereum is evolving into "digital oil." This analogy positions ETH as the critical settlement layer upon which the entire infrastructure of the future AI economy will operate, underscoring its growing relevance alongside the increasing capabilities of AI and robotics.
