Political Firestorm Looms: Osun APC Alleges Adeleke Plans 'Mayhem' in Local Councils

Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the Osun State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vehemently raised an alarm regarding alleged clandestine plans to ignite fresh political tension within local government councils across the state. This urgent warning comes with a direct appeal to security agencies, urging them to proactively protect all council officials and workers from any potential unrest or intimidation. Lawal's public statement was prompted by an earlier declaration from the Osun State Government, which itself had alleged that certain stakeholders were plotting to instigate crises at local government councils and motor parks following the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
In a detailed statement disseminated through Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Director of Media and Information, the APC chairman issued a stern caution to Governor Ademola Adeleke. He advised the governor against any actions or inactions that could potentially plunge Osun State into yet another tumultuous period of political instability. Lawal acknowledged that if the government's concerns about potential attacks on council secretariats and motor parks were indeed based on credible intelligence, then such information should be immediately provided to relevant security agencies for thorough investigation and appropriate preemptive action. Furthermore, he explicitly called upon the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to ensure the robust protection of all serving local government officials, council workers, and other lawful occupants of council premises, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Lawal emphasized that the APC-led Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) administrations are the legitimate occupants of these council premises. He issued a clear warning that political differences should under no circumstances be used as a pretext to justify their forceful removal or displacement. He underscored the fundamental responsibility of the police to safeguard lives and property and guarantee the safety of all citizens.
