Phoebe Bridgers Soars! 'Lost Boys' Secures Historic First Billboard Airplay No. 1

Phoebe Bridgers has achieved a significant milestone in her solo career, topping the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart for the first time with her song “Lost Boys.” The track, which serves as the lead single from her third studio album, “Lost Weekend,” ascended from No. 2 to No. 1 on the August 29-dated survey in its eighth week on the ranking. This achievement follows the successful release of the parent album, “Lost Weekend,” on August 14.

While this marks Bridgers' inaugural solo No. 1 on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, she has previously appeared on the survey. Her debut on this chart was in 2017 with “Motion Sickness,” which reached No. 26 in early 2018. Prior to “Lost Boys,” her highest solo peak was with “Sidelines,” charting at No. 12 in 2022. Bridgers is no stranger to the top spot on this chart, however, having previously secured a No. 1 hit as part of the supergroup Boygenius, alongside Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus. Their song “Not Strong Enough” reigned for an impressive seven weeks in 2023, and their follow-up single, “Cool About It,” also performed strongly, reaching No. 2.

“Lost Boys” makes Phoebe Bridgers the second act to achieve a No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay for the first time in 2023, following Chris Stapleton, whose collaboration with Mumford & Sons on “Here” led the chart for two weeks in July. She is notably the first solo artist to achieve this feat without any other featured acts since St. Paul & the Broken Bones' “Sushi and Coca-Cola” topped the chart in October.

Beyond the Adult Alternative Airplay chart, “Lost Boys” is also making waves on other rock formats. The song climbed from No. 23 to No. 22 on the Alternative Airplay chart. Her previous best on this chart was “Kyoto,” which peaked at No. 25 in 2021, while Boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough” reached an even higher No. 11. On the audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, “Lost Boys” advanced from No. 21 to No. 17, garnering 2.2 million audience impressions, a 13% increase, in the week ending August 20, according to Luminate.

The success of “Lost Boys” is expected to significantly impact the forthcoming Billboard album charts, with “Lost Weekend” positioned as a strong contender. All Billboard lists dated August 29 are scheduled to be updated on Billboard.com on Tuesday, August 25, with the top 10 of the prestigious Billboard 200 chart being revealed earlier, on Sunday, August 23.
