Paystack Breaks Silence on Ezra Olubi's Controversial Firing
Paystack, a leading payment processing company, has confirmed the termination of its Co-founder and former CTO, Ezra Olubi, citing “significant negative reputational damage.” This decision, according to a statement obtained by Techpoint Africa, was a direct consequence of damning posts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that recently resurfaced.
The company emphasized that it acted within its contractual rights and followed due process throughout the termination of Olubi’s employment, also affirming that all financial obligations owed to him have been met. Paystack clarified that this termination is distinct from an ongoing independent investigation into separate allegations of workplace misconduct. This investigation is being conducted by an external law firm, Aluko & Oyebode, appointed by Paystack’s board.
Paystack underscored its regulatory responsibilities, stating, “As a regulated company operating in multiple markets, we have a responsibility to act quickly when conduct has the potential to undermine trust.”
In a blog post dated November 23, 2025, Olubi corroborated receiving notice of his termination on November 22, 2025. He contends that this decision was made prior to the conclusion of the aforementioned investigation and that he was not afforded a meeting, a hearing, or any opportunity to respond to the allegations against him. Olubi stated that following his suspension, he deliberately refrained from making public statements to avoid interfering with the board’s investigation. However, he now regrets that his silence “created a vacuum” that allowed “assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”
Olubi maintains that the resurfaced tweets—which have become the focal point of this controversy—do not accurately reflect his conduct or his life. He asserts that he has consistently “conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety.” Although his X account is now deactivated, the content of the resurfaced posts reportedly included sexually explicit comments concerning minors, cats, and colleagues, painting a highly negative image of the Paystack co-founder.
Currently, Olubi’s legal team is reviewing the termination process to ascertain its compliance with Paystack’s internal policies. He has indicated that he will refrain from further comments while this legal review is underway.
