Sabar Airlines Expands Fleet with CRJ-200 to Strengthen Regional Operations
Nairobi-based Sabar Airlines has expanded its fleet with the addition of a Bombardier CRJ-200 regional jet, a move expected to support the airline's growing regional network as it strengthens services across East Africa.
The carrier, which recently launched scheduled operations, already serves Nairobi, Juba, Mogadishu and Hargeisa through its published 2026 flight schedule, positioning itself as a new player in the region's expanding aviation market.
Industry publication NEWSAERO's report on the fleet addition said the CRJ-200 is expected to reinforce operations on the Nairobi–Juba route, although the airline has yet to issue a detailed public statement confirming the aircraft's entry into commercial service.
The Bombardier CRJ-200 is widely used on regional routes because of its efficient operating economics and capacity of about 50 passengers. The aircraft is particularly suited to markets where demand is steady but does not justify the use of larger narrow-body jets.
Sabar Airlines' fleet strategy reflects a broader trend among African start-up carriers, many of which are opting for smaller regional aircraft to expand gradually while keeping operating costs under control. This approach enables airlines to connect underserved destinations without committing to excess capacity.
The Nairobi–Juba route remains an important link for business travellers, humanitarian agencies, government officials and members of the South Sudanese diaspora. More frequent services could improve connectivity while creating additional opportunities for tourism and regional commerce.
Sabar Airlines has also identified Somalia and Somaliland as key growth markets. Its current network already includes scheduled flights to Mogadishu and Hargeisa, according to destinations published on the airline's official booking platform.
While details surrounding the CRJ-200 acquisition are still emerging, the fleet expansion underscores the ambitions of one of East Africa's newest carriers as it seeks to strengthen regional connectivity and establish a larger footprint in the Horn of Africa's aviation sector.
