Namibian Tour Operator Faces Fallout After Disastrous Angola Trip, Promises Full Refunds
Viago Booking, a travel company, has issued an official apology and pledged to refund clients following a trip to Angola that left approximately 70 Namibians stranded in Luanda. The company had promoted a 14-day Angola tour, scheduled from December 22 to January 4, with each participant paying N$5,000. This fee was advertised to cover transport, food, accommodation, and daily activities; however, clients were ultimately forced to cover all expenses themselves during the trip.
Walter Mucungui, Viago Booking’s founder, acknowledged serious lapses in service, organization, and communication. “We acknowledge that there were shortcomings in organisation, communication, and service delivery, which did not meet the standards we aim to uphold. For this, we take full responsibility,” Mucungui said. He confirmed that refunds are currently being processed and that affected clients will be contacted directly.
Mucungui also addressed what he described as inaccurate and misleading information circulating online, which has exacerbated client frustration. He urged the public to rely solely on official Viago Booking communication channels for accurate updates.
In addition, Viago Booking has sought legal counsel to ensure the situation is managed responsibly, transparently, and in accordance with the law, prioritizing clients’ interests. The company expressed gratitude to clients, partners, and the public for their patience and reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and rebuilding trust.
