Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was tragically murdered in a shooting incident in Gauteng on Tuesday, December 16. The fatal shooting occurred on Commissioner Street in Johannesburg's CBD, specifically outside the Carlton Centre, a bustling area frequented by workers, shoppers, and commuters. Stock's death marks the latest in a series of killings within the province's entertainment industry and private security sector, with some incidents reportedly linked to an ongoing law enforcement scandal and an asserted criminal network targeting DJs in Gauteng.

According to police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the victim was allegedly approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle. They subsequently opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and as of now, no arrests have been made, with an investigation currently underway.

The Kiffness, a musician, shared details on social media platform X, stating that Warras was allegedly inspecting a building guarded by his security company. He had reportedly stepped outside after a routine check when a vehicle drove past and shots were fired. Businessman Rob Hersov, who identified himself as a friend, also posted on X, mourning Warras and describing him as a loving and compassionate individual.

The news of Stock's murder sent shockwaves through the community. His sister, Nicole, speaking from the scene, expressed profound grief to the SABC. "I'm still in shock; I haven't processed it officially. I've just touched his body, it's still warm," she stated, adding, "I'm broken, I'm shattered because we know he was a voice for many people around the country and even around the world. You know, he spoke out bravely about so many issues that not many people will speak about. It's truly a tremendous loss not only to us as a family, but to a nation as well."

Before his untimely death, Warrick Stock had a notable career as a radio DJ, working at prominent stations like 5FM and Cliff Central. He was also a very active presence on social media, often engaging in discussions and making headlines for controversial posts, including recent ones involving Cat Matlala and Rachel Kolisi. Just hours before the shooting, Warras was still posting online, with his final message now widely shared, a poignant testament to his active digital life.
