Kesha's Emotional Homage to 'Blow' Video Co-Star James Van Der Beek

Actor James Van Der Beek, widely known for his role in "Dawson’s Creek," has passed away at the age of 48, following a two-year public battle with cancer. The news of his death on Wednesday, February 11, sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from colleagues and fans alike, most notably from pop star Kesha, who fondly recalled their time together co-starring in her "Blow" music video.
Kesha took to her Instagram Stories to share two poignant photos with Van Der Beek. The images, taken on a Las Vegas red carpet in May 2011, just three months after the release of their music video, showed Van Der Beek pointing at the singer and another of the pair in an embrace, both adorned with red heart emojis. Their collaboration on the "Blow" music video, a single from Kesha's "Cannibal" album, showcased a different side of the actor, known primarily for his teen drama persona.
The fantastical visual for "Blow," released in February 2011, was a playful and cheeky production. It featured Kesha making out with unicorns and engaging in a rainbow-laser gun battle with Van Der Beek, effectively turning his serious image upside down and revealing his hidden sense of humor. The video included memorable dialogue such as Kesha's quip, "Well, well, well. If it isn’t James Van Der Douche," to which Van Der Beek responded, "I don’t appreciate you slander-Beeking my name, Ke-dollar-sign-ha," playfully referencing Kesha’s former stage name. The video famously concluded with Van Der Beek’s head mounted on Kesha’s wall as she laughed with her unicorn-headed friends. "Blow" was a significant hit for Kesha, peaking at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011.
Van Der Beek's family confirmed his peaceful passing via an Instagram statement. "Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning," the statement read. "He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend."
Condolences quickly flooded the comments section of Van Der Beek's Instagram page from numerous celebrities. Lance Bass of *NSYNC wrote, "We are sending your beautiful family so much love. Safe travels James. You made this world a better place." Reese Witherspoon shared her heartfelt sympathy, saying, "Sending all my angels to help carry him home… you and your beautiful family are in my heart," while Jennifer Garner added, "What a heartbreaking loss. So much love to you, Kimberly, and to your kids, as you navigate this tender time."
James Van Der Beek is survived by his wife, Kimberly, and their six children: Olivia, Joshua, Annabel, Emilia, Gwen, and Jeremiah.
