Jordan Ayew Ignites Black Stars Debate: Demands Faith in Current Squad for World Cup Glory

Jordan Ayew, captain of Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, has expressed strong confidence in the current squad as they prepare for the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup. The prestigious tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will see Ghana competing in Group L alongside formidable opponents England, Panama, and Croatia.

Following an impressive run in the qualifiers, where the Black Stars secured five wins and a draw in their final six matches, Ayew firmly believes that the core group of players who achieved qualification are more than capable of representing the nation on the global stage. In an exclusive interview, Ayew stated, "I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well. I don't think we need any additions. I believe we have a good team and, as time goes on, we are improving. We haven't had much time to train together, but the unity is getting better and everything is improving."

Ayew further emphasized that this period might not be the opportune moment for significant squad alterations, though he respectfully deferred the final selection decisions to the technical team. "I don't think this is the right time to make changes. But to be honest, on the technical side, the coach will know whom to add or select. Whoever is added must be ready to give their all and put on a show," he remarked.

The Ghana captain reiterated the Black Stars' ambition for the tournament, asserting that they are not merely going to participate but to compete fiercely and leave a lasting impression. "We are going to the World Cup to give our very best. We want to put on a show and, hopefully, achieve the results we are aiming for. We are not just going to the USA to make up the numbers. We will stay humble and focused, and hopefully we can dream of achieving big things. We need positive energy around the team, and we will do everything we can to make the nation proud," Ayew declared.

Ghana's campaign will kick off against Panama in Toronto, followed by matches against England and Croatia. As part of their rigorous preparations, Otto Addo’s side is scheduled to play pre-tournament friendlies this month against Germany and Austria, with another fixture against Wales planned for June, just nine days before the tournament officially begins. The team is determined to significantly improve upon their performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they were eliminated during the group stage.
