Arewa Revival Project Defends Akpabio, Demands Proof Over Viral Quote

The Arewa Revival Project has defended Senate President Godswill Akpabioagainst a viral social media publication allegedly quoting him as saying Northerners would suffer if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lost the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement signed by its Project Coordinator, Hon. Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim, the group described the alleged remark as inflammatory and urged the public and media to demand evidence before accepting it as authentic. It specifically called for the original video or audio recording, transcript, date, venue and credible source behind the claim.

The group warned that unverified social media content could deepen regional divisions and undermine national cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections. It also praised Akpabio’s leadership as Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, describing the role as requiring political judgement, consultation and the ability to manage competing interests.

The Arewa Revival Project subsequently passed a vote of confidence in Akpabio, saying public officials should be assessed through verifiable actions, legislative responsibilities and measurable contributions rather than anonymous allegations or politically charged graphics.

The organisation urged Akpabio to continue promoting national unity, peaceful coexistence and effective legislative leadership while calling on Nigerians to prioritise evidence and responsible public debate.

It stressed that political differences should not become a basis for statements capable of encouraging hatred, suspicion or confrontation among communities. “Nigeria is bigger than any political party, individual or election,” the group said, urging Nigerians to verify claims before sharing them and to place truth, evidence and national interest at the centre of political discourse.
