She also reposted screenshots of herself from a livestream of the funeral. These posts sparked widespread backlash from X users, who labeled her “insensitive” and “shameless” for using a grieving family for content and ego boosting. Speaking to the media outside the funeral, Mama Joy recounted a poignant memory of seeing Jayden Adams play at the FIFA World Cup, expressing her sorrow and disbelief at having to say goodbye so soon.

Separately, Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie publicly defended Jayden Adams’s girlfriend, Aqueelah Adendorf, against threats from trolls accusing her of contributing to his death. Speaking at the funeral, held at the Coetzenburg Centre in Stellenbosch, McKenzie addressed mourners, specifically calling out the personal attacks on Adendorf. Reports had circulated that the couple had a heated argument moments before Adams reportedly took his own life. McKenzie stated, “I want to get the negativity out of the way. I saw many articles blaming Aqueelah for what has happened here today. I want to say to you, Aqueelah, People will talk.” He further added, “I spoke to Jayden, and I know how he felt about you. Let people say what they want to. You loved Jadyn and were there for him. Thank you.” In an earlier Facebook Live, McKenzie revealed that Adendorf had been receiving death threats and affirmed his support for her, emphasizing that couples argue and highlighting her loss as the mother of Adams's child. Aqueelah Adendorf had briefly deactivated her TikTok account following allegations of an emotional spat with Adams, but later returned to the platform, reposting content related to grief and loss amidst the ongoing public scrutiny.
