Chart Shocker: Maisie Peters Topples Michael Jackson for UK's No. 1 Album Crown!

Maisie Peters has achieved her second consecutive No. 1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart, dated May 29. Her third album, “Florescence,” secured the top spot after a tight race, beating Michael Jackson’s “The Essential Michael Jackson” by a mere 250 chart units. This success follows her 2023 sophomore effort, “The Good Witch,” which also reached No. 1 on the charts. The 26-year-old artist expressed her pride to the Official Charts Company, stating, “I’m really proud of myself and for the team, everyone worked really hard. Michael Jackson tried, but he couldn’t come up against the real M-dog!” The “Florescence” LP features collaborations with notable artists Marcus Mumford and Julia Michaels. Later this year, Peters is set to perform her biggest headline show yet at London’s O2 Arena, in addition to appearing at the Reading & Leeds Festival in August.
Meanwhile, “The Essential Michael Jackson” held its No. 2 position week-on-week, having previously spent two weeks at No. 1 in May following the box office success of the Michael biopic. Drake’s “Iceman” landed at No. 3, dropping two places from its No. 1 position the previous week. The Canadian artist made history by simultaneously debuting three studio albums in the top 10 of the charts, a first-ever achievement for any artist. Olivia Dean’s “The Art of Loving” closed at No. 4 after her headline set at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and MJ’s iconic album “Thriller” rounded out the top five.
Further down the chart, Yungblud’s “Idols” returned to the top 40, ending the week at No. 17. The Yorkshire-born rocker released a new physical edition of the LP, which featured new tracks and a collaboration with The Smashing Pumpkins. Bleachers, the Jack Antonoff-led group, earned their second top 20 album with “Everyone for Ten Minutes,” securing the No. 18 spot.
