Anthony Edwards Trolls LeBron and Jaylen Brown in New Adidas Ad
Anthony Edwards uses his latest Adidas commercial to joke about LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, LaMelo Ball and other NBA stars
Anthony Edwards has turned the promotion of his latest Adidas signature shoe into an opportunity to troll some of the NBA's biggest names.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard appears in a new Adidas Basketball advertisement packed with jokes about LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, LaMelo Ball and other stars ahead of the shoe's release.
Edwards first took aim at LeBron, joking about the speculation surrounding the veteran star's free-agency decision.
According to Edwards, the 41-year-old James considered joining him in Minnesota but changed his mind because his knees could not handle the cold weather.
The joke came after James ultimately chose Philadelphia, adding another layer to Edwards' playful take on the offseason move.
He then brought Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown into the conversation.
Edwards joked that Philadelphia's barbers were the real reason James chose the city, before referencing the viral controversy surrounding Brown's hair-enhancement spray during last season.
Brown became a social-media talking point after hair-enhancement product appeared to transfer onto an opponent's jersey during a game.
The Timberwolves star also had something to say about his friendship with Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball.
Edwards called Ball his "twin" and said the pair have been working out together, but quickly added that he would not be getting into a car with Ball behind the wheel.
The joke references Ball's previous driving controversies and Edwards' reputation for turning even ordinary conversations into comedy.
He also challenged New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, saying nobody on the court would be safe from his competitive energy, including Brunson's father, Rick Brunson, who works as a Knicks assistant coach.
The advertisement ends with Edwards turning the jokes back toward basketball.
He teases that once he puts on the new shoes, "it's over for all y'all," leaving fans to speculate about which NBA star he has in mind.
For Edwards, the commercial does more than promote another signature shoe.
It reinforces the personality that has helped make the Timberwolves guard one of the NBA's most recognisable young stars, combining trash talk, humour and confidence in a format designed to travel quickly across social media.
With the new NBA season approaching, fans will now have another reason to watch for Edwards' biggest matchups, particularly when Minnesota eventually faces Philadelphia.
