Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that the nation's insecurity challenges will soon be defeated, while simultaneously declaring that reforms initiated in the banking sector have significantly strengthened its resilience. Speaking while advocating for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope reforms, Akpabio emphasized that the dual challenges of insecurity and economic hardship necessitate sustained governmental action alongside active cooperation from citizens.

Akpabio unequivocally described insecurity as a substantial impediment to economic development, highlighting that businesses and investors cannot prosper in an environment riddled with fear and instability. He stated, "Insecurity is a direct enemy of development. No foreign investor will build in an atmosphere of chaos, and no local business can thrive without safety." The Senate President further explained that security agencies have transitioned from a primarily reactive approach to a more proactive strategy, directly engaging terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements in their enclaves. He reiterated his assurance, "The security forces are taking the fight directly to the enclaves of criminals, bandits, and insurgents. The strategy has shifted from reaction to proactive confrontation, and I assure Nigerians that insecurity will be defeated."

To bolster these efforts, Akpabio urged Nigerians to complement the work of security agencies by providing credible and timely information regarding suspicious activities within their communities. He stressed that military hardware alone is insufficient to eradicate criminality, underscoring that actionable intelligence from citizens remains paramount for successful security operations. "Security is a collective civic responsibility," he affirmed. "Our security personnel are working tirelessly on the frontlines, but they rely on actionable intelligence from the communities they protect." He specifically called for abandoning a culture of silence, encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities to the proper authorities by stating, "If you see something, say something to the proper authorities."

Addressing the economic landscape, Akpabio highlighted the significant transformations within the banking sector under the Tinubu administration. He asserted that the era of sudden bank failures and the subsequent loss of depositors’ funds has been effectively resolved. "Today, thanks to the bold vision and strategic foresights of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, our banking sector has transitioned from survival to absolute dominance," Akpabio declared. He lauded the sector as one of Africa's safest, most resilient, and technologically advanced banking systems, attributing this progress to ongoing consolidation and recapitalization initiatives. These reforms, he explained, have been instrumental in bolstering investor confidence, safeguarding depositors’ funds, and establishing a robust foundation for long-term economic growth. This assessment aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria's similar description of the banking sector as resilient, with the ongoing recapitalization expected to further strengthen banks and enhance their capacity for credit growth.
