African Mobility Startup Plentywaka Transforms into Treepz for Pan-African Domination

African mobility startup Plentywaka has officially rebranded as Treepz as part of its strategy to expand across the continent.
The company recently raised seed funding of $1.2 million and acquired Ghanaian mobility platform Stabus to strengthen its regional presence.
According to CEO Onyeka Akumah, the rebrand followed extensive discussions with stakeholders across Africa, aimed at creating a name with broader appeal.
Akumah explained that the term “WAKA” in “Plentywaka” carries different meanings across regions, which could dilute the brand’s message about travel.
To solve this, the startup adopted Treepz, pronounced “Trips,” to evoke positive feelings around bus journeys and urban travel.
The rebranding aligns with the company’s vision to become the largest shared mobility platform in Africa.
Alongside the name change, Treepz introduced a new logo while retaining its signature black & yellow brand colors.
Existing services like “daily waka,” “travel waka,” and “corporate waka” will now operate under the updated names: daily Treepz, travel Treepz, and corporate Treepz.
Akumah said the rebrand reinforces the company’s commitment to providing safe, convenient, and comfortable trips throughout Africa.
The startup plans to expand into six new African countries over the next two years as part of its aggressive growth strategy.
Current users will be automatically transitioned to the Treepz app, which will update seamlessly without manual intervention.
Industry analysts see this rebrand as a strategic step in Treepz’s evolution from a Nigeria‑focused startup into a Pan‑African mobility leader.
