On Friday, May 16, Chief Officer of Environment Geoffrey Mosiria found a woman drinking and chewing miraa while carrying her 3-month-old baby inside a noisy bar.
In a statement, Mosiria disclosed that he was on his routine inspection of clubs polluting the environment when he encountered the woman with her child inside the club at odd hours.
He termed the incident as irresponsible parenting, arguing that the loud music could expose the minor to serious risks.
"During a night noise pollution enforcement exercise, I encountered a deeply disturbing situation: a mother with a 3-month-old baby was found drinking alcohol and chewing miraa inside a noisy local bar. This is not only irresponsible but also dangerous, as the loud environment puts the newborn at serious risk, including the potential of permanent hearing loss. It is completely unacceptable that a child is exposed to such harmful surroundings while in the care of a parent.
According to Mosiria, the incident highlights a serious failure in both personal responsibility and the enforcement of regulations by club and bar owners.
He called on bar owners to strictly prohibit the admission of minors inside entertainment joints, adding that nightclubs should relocate from residential areas.
I am calling on all bar owners to strictly prohibit the admission of minors into their premises and to relocate their establishments away from residential areas, as their continued operation in such locations not only contributes to noise pollution but also erodes the moral fabric of our society. We cannot allow impunity to thrive in our city under the watch of the government.
The chief officer stated that the Nairobi County government remains committed to taking firm action to protect our communities and especially our children.

"Those criticiSing what has been done here. Does it mean at a personal level you wouldn't. Advise the lady not to expose such a kid to such an environment? Just imagine your kid there."
