Governor Zulum Declares Monday Fasting and Prayer Day in Borno Over Insecurity

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has declared Monday a day of voluntary fasting and prayer across the state, aiming to seek divine intervention for the persistent insecurity challenges. The announcement was made during a statewide broadcast in Maiduguri on Saturday, where the governor emphasized the need for collective faith and solidarity to address the ongoing security threats.
Governor Zulum highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, "In light of our current security challenges, I am calling on all residents of Borno State to unite in a collective act of faith and solidarity. This Monday, I am inviting you to join me in a voluntary day of fasting and prayer for peace to reign in Borno State, the Northeast and indeed the entire country. Let us come together to seek divine guidance, healing, and peace for our state." He described the fast as a communal expression of shared hope and resilience.
Acknowledging the federal government's support, Governor Zulum pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies. "In recent months, I have held extensive consultations with our federal partners and the leadership of various security agencies. I am pleased to inform you that the collaboration between Borno State and the Federal Government is stronger than ever," he said. He emphasized that comprehensive strategies are being developed to enhance intelligence sharing and equip security agents with the necessary tools.
Governor Zulum reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's assurance of federal backing to end the current insecurity. He also committed to reinforcing local security initiatives by strengthening volunteer forces, including the CJTF, hunters, and vigilantes, and bolstering community intelligence gathering and early warning systems. He warned against colluding with armed groups, emphasizing that they are the collective enemy.
In addition to security concerns, Governor Zulum addressed the ongoing water scarcity in parts of Maiduguri, attributing it to infrastructure damage caused by the catastrophic floods of September 10, 2023. He reassured citizens that his administration is working tirelessly to restore the affected infrastructure and appealed for patience and understanding.
The governor also announced the reconstitution of the Anti-Social Vices Committee to tackle violent crimes within the metropolis, warning against criminal elements destabilizing the progress being made. He concluded his broadcast with a call for unity and perseverance, urging all stakeholders to join hands in securing communities, restoring normalcy, and ensuring Borno thrives once again.
Governor Zulum expressed condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces for the loss of personnel in recent operations and prayed for the families of the fallen. He emphasized that the road to lasting peace is not easy but can be overcome with unity, perseverance, and faith.
