Governor Yusuf Suspends Aide Over Unauthorized Statement on Kwankwaso

Governor Abba Yusuf has suspended Ibrahim Rabi’u, a Senior Special Reporter (SSR) attached to the Ministry of Transportation, for unauthorizedly issuing a statement about former governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. The aide allegedly claimed, on behalf of the NNPP leader, that President Bola Tinubu had repeatedly contacted Kwankwaso, seeking his return to the APC. The aide also stated Kwankwaso's firm refusal to rejoin the APC, even if it meant quitting politics.

Kwankwaso has since disavowed the statement. Governor Yusuf, through his spokesman Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, announced the immediate suspension and directed that a query be issued to Rabi’u. The suspension was enacted by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Farouk-Ibrahim, on Saturday.

Dawakin-Tofa conveyed the governor's warning to all political appointees against making unauthorized statements, stressing that all official comments require clearance. The government has disassociated itself from the statement, attributing it solely to the suspended aide. The government clarified that only the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya, is authorized to speak for the government, while the Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature, speaks for the Governor.

The government reiterated its caution to all political appointees regarding unauthorized comments, especially those outside their designated purview. All political appointees must obtain clearance before publicly commenting on government positions concerning matters of public importance or sensitive political decisions.
