Taylor Swift Dominates Charts: Superstar Snags Coveted ARIA Crown from Paul Kelly!

The latest ARIA Charts, published on Friday, November 14, reveal a commanding presence from U.S. pop sensation Taylor Swift, who has extended her reign across both the national albums and singles tallies. Her album, "The Life Of A Showgirl" (Republic/Universal), has impressively secured its sixth consecutive week atop the national albums chart, underscoring Swift's enduring popularity and appeal within the Australian music market.

Mirroring her album's continued success, Swift's lead single, “The Fate Of Ophelia,” also marks its sixth week at the No. 1 position on the ARIA Singles Chart. This significant achievement draws level with her personal best, matching the six-week run previously held by her 2022 hit, “Anti-Hero,” further cementing her status as a consistent chart-topping artist.

Amidst Swift's sustained dominance, Australian music icon Paul Kelly has made a notable impact with his latest offering, "Seventy" (EMI). This 28th studio album from Kelly debuts impressively at No. 2 on the ARIA Chart, claiming the top new release slot of the week. The 70-year-old Kelly, who is one of Australia’s most-cherished singer-songwriters, boasts an illustrious career highlighted by 16 ARIA Awards, an induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1997, and four previous No. 1 albums: "Life Is Fine" (2017), "Nature" (2018), "Songs From The South: 1985-2019" (2019), and "Paul Kelly’s Christmas Train" (2022).

Homegrown talent continues to shine with Canberra's pop-punk band Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers making a glorious top ten debut. Their second studio album, "GLORY" (Community Music), signifies a considerable milestone for the four-piece. The band recently received the Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist award at the 2024 ARIA Awards, an event they also opened with a live performance. This success follows their previous chart achievement with 2023’s "I Love You," which peaked at No. 6 on the ARIA chart.

On the international front, Spanish superstar Rosalia achieves her first top 50 appearance in Australia with "Lux" (Columbia/Sony), entering the charts at No. 15. "Lux" has already proven to be a global phenomenon, amassing an astonishing 42.1 million streams within its initial 24 hours of release, setting a new record for the biggest global tally by a female, Spanish-speaking artist.

The Australian chart landscape is further enriched by several other noteworthy entries from local artists. Veteran Australian country artist James Blundell secures a top 40 spot with "Patience Wins" (AMB/MGM), his 12th studio album, debuting at No. 25. Western Australia singer-songwriter Stella Donnelly also achieves her third top 40 appearance with "Love and Fortune" (DOT/RMT), which enters at No. 31. This builds upon the success of her previous albums, 2019’s "Beware Of The Dogs" (No. 15) and 2022’s "Flood" (No. 29).

The vibrant punk rock scene is well-represented by the beloved act Cosmic Psychos, whose album "I Really Like Beer" (RKT) pours into the charts at No. 32. Furthermore, fellow Melburnians Icecream Hands crack the top 40 with their independently-released "Giant Fox Pineapple Tree," new at No. 38. This marks the eighth album for the Aussie power pop band and their first appearance in the ARIA top 50.

Shifting focus to the ARIA Singles Chart, beyond Taylor Swift's sustained No. 1 reign, U.K. act Haven makes the top debut with their viral number “I Run,” entering impressively at No. 8. This track stands out as the only new release within the singles top 50 for the week. Additionally, Tame Impala holds the distinction of being the sole Australian artist on the singles chart, with their track “Dracula” (Columbia/Sony) improving its position from 37 to a new high of No. 34.
