Tanzania Unleashes Bagamoyo's Beach Tourism Potential

Coast Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Abubakar Kunenge, has issued a directive to the Bagamoyo Town Council to undertake a comprehensive survey of its coastal areas. This initiative aims to attract significant investment in hotels and various other economic projects, ultimately boosting local revenue and accelerating overall development within the region. Speaking during a special council meeting convened to discuss the Controller and Auditor General's (CAG) report, Mr Kunenge underscored Bagamoyo's immense potential for tourism development due to its highly attractive beaches, which he believes are ideal for the construction of modern hotels.

Mr Kunenge emphasized that the district's beautiful beaches, if effectively utilized, could substantially contribute to economic growth and generate much-needed employment opportunities for the youth. He explicitly directed the council to survey these areas to draw in more investors, particularly those keen on establishing modern hotel facilities. Beyond investment, the RC also stressed the critical importance of prudent management of public funds, the need for improved delivery of social services, and the effective implementation of priority development plans to address the challenges faced by the citizens.

The Regional Commissioner commended the Bagamoyo council for achieving a clean audit report, urging its leaders to continue upholding the rule of law and principles of good governance. Furthermore, Coast Regional Administrative Secretary, Ms Pili Mnyema, called upon council officials to enhance their performance to strengthen economic growth not only in the region but across the entire country. Bagamoyo Member of Parliament (CCM), Ms Subira Mgalu, reiterated that the district is richly endowed with unique tourism attractions that should be fully exploited to generate greater income.

Ms Mgalu highlighted several key attractions, including Saadani National Park, which she noted is the only national park in this part of Africa that borders the Indian Ocean. She also pointed out the historic Kaole Ruins, as well as significant British, German, and Arab historical sites. Additionally, Bagamoyo boasts the country's longest beach coastline, presenting enormous potential for both tourism and investment, reinforcing the district's strategic position for economic expansion.
