Shockwaves: Trent Reznor Hints at Nine Inch Nails' Impending End

Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor recently delivered an unexpected announcement during the band's concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 27th, hinting at a potential cessation of touring. Addressing the BOK Center crowd, Reznor stated, “I don’t know if we’re going to be touring anymore after this, but I’m proud of the show that we’re doing right now. And I’m f—ing grateful that you’ve chosen to spend your evening with us tonight. Thank you very much.” This candid remark suggests that the current "Peel It Back" tour might be among the band's last extensive live performances.
Reznor reminisced about a prior visit to Tulsa "many years" ago, when Nine Inch Nails served as a support act for Peter Murphy at the significantly smaller Cain’s Ballroom. He described a profound moment during that performance, witnessing an audience member passionately sing along to "Head Like a Hole," an iconic early track from their 1989 album, "Pretty Hate Machine." This memory underscores the band's enduring connection with its fanbase over decades.
Coinciding with Reznor's touring revelation, Nine Inch Nails surprised fans with the release of "Tron Ares: Divergence," a companion album to their acclaimed "Tron: Ares" soundtrack. The "Tron: Ares" score, credited to Nine Inch Nails and composed by Oscar winners Reznor and Atticus Ross, previously achieved commercial success by debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 album chart, marking their first-ever film score.
Nine Inch Nails has a rich history on the charts, beginning with "Pretty Hate Machine," which, despite peaking at No. 75 on the Billboard 200, was foundational for a new wave of heavy-edged music incorporating synthesizers. The band boasts 18 appearances on the all-genres albums chart, including two chart-toppers: "The Fragile" in 1999 and "With Teeth" in 2005, each spending one week at No. 1.
Currently, Reznor and Co. are immersed in the second leg of their "Peel It Back" tour. The first leg commenced on June 15, 2025, in Dublin, concluding with two shows at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles in September of the same year. The ongoing second leg of the North American tour is scheduled to conclude on March 16th at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. The remaining tour dates for 2026 include: March 3 in Dallas, Texas; March 6 in Glendale, Arizona; March 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada; March 9 in San Diego, California; March 10 in Anaheim, California; March 13 in Salt Lake City, Utah; March 15 in San Francisco, California; and March 16 in Sacramento, California. Fans eager to catch the band live will have these final opportunities to experience what may be Nine Inch Nails' last touring efforts, as suggested by their iconic frontman.
