Reps Minority Caucus Calls for 2027 United Front to Replicate 2015 Victory

The Minority Caucus in Nigeria's House of Representatives has issued a significant call to action for all opposition leaders, urging them to forge a united front in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general election. The primary objective of this proposed collaboration is to replicate the historic electoral success of 2015, when the merged opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) successfully unseated the then-incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This strategic appeal was made by the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Fred Agbedi, a representative from Bayelsa State under the PDP platform.

Agbedi's call was delivered during the inaugural Summit of Opposition Political Parties, an event convened at the distinguished Shehu Yar’Adua Centre located in Abuja. Emphasizing the critical importance of collective action, Hon. Agbedi articulated that achieving a similar electoral triumph in the 2027 polls hinges entirely on the opposition's ability to maintain a strong "unity of purpose." He further stressed the necessity for all leaders of the various opposition parties to actively participate in and attend crucial gatherings such as this summit, underscoring the value of sustained engagement and coordination.

During his address, the leader of the opposition lawmakers also offered a cautionary note regarding the current political landscape. He highlighted that Nigeria is presently led by a president who, in his view, adheres to the belief that "all is fair in politics." Hon. Agbedi therefore charged the summit participants to be acutely aware of this particular political disposition and to strategize and act accordingly, suggesting that a clear understanding of the incumbent's approach is vital for the opposition's planning and execution.
