Racing Glory: Ugo Ugochukwu Shatters Records with Historic Silverstone F3 Victory!

Ugo Ugochukwu, the Nigerian-American Campos Racing driver, delivered a dominant performance at the Silverstone Sprint Race on Saturday, July 4, securing his second victory of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 season. This win was particularly remarkable as he clinched it by a staggering 17.023 seconds, marking the largest winning margin in the current iteration of FIA Formula 3. This achievement surpasses the previous record by an impressive 3.552 seconds, making him the first driver to win twice this year.

Starting from pole position, Ugochukwu maintained his lead throughout the entire 18-lap race on the 5.891-kilometre Silverstone circuit. He not only led every single lap but also claimed the additional point for setting the fastest lap. Early in the race, AIX Racing’s Yevan David initially applied pressure, staying within DRS range. However, Ugochukwu skillfully managed his tyres, allowing the gap to steadily increase. By the halfway point, his lead was insurmountable, effectively sealing the race victory.

While Ugochukwu commanded the front, there was considerable drama unfolding behind him. Yevan David held on to secure second place, making history as the first Sri Lankan driver to stand on a Formula 3 podium. Campos teammate Théophile Nael also made a late charge, grabbing third place with a thrilling last-corner overtake on TRIDENT’s Matteo De Palo.

Post-race, Ugochukwu expressed his satisfaction with the outcome. “I’m super happy, second win of the season, but most of all the pace was amazing. Really good second and last part of the race, we managed to pull a big gap, so that fills us with confidence for tomorrow, so I am sure we can come through the field and score some more good points tomorrow,” he stated. He further elaborated on his race management, noting, “At the beginning of the race, Yevan was quite a bit closer. He was just about in my DRS, so I was trying to manage that as best as possible. The gap increased and obviously made my race a lot easier, but I still had to focus, make sure I wasn’t using too much of my tyres, just in case someone came strong at the end. After a certain point, I knew I just had to bring it home.”

Ugochukwu now leads the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Drivers’ Championship with 89 points, significantly ahead of Freddie Slater, who is in second place with 66 points. Born in New York City to Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Onweagba and Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi, Ugochukwu has been a highly-regarded young talent in motorsport for several years. His career highlights include being part of the McLaren Driver Development Programme from 2021 to 2025, becoming the first American winner of the Macau Grand Prix in 43 years in 2024, and testing a Formula One car, the Alpine A524, for the first time in a private session at Monza in June 2026.
