Netflix Unveils Daring 'Pride and Prejudice' Remake with Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, First Trailer Drops!
Actor Jack Lowden is experiencing a pivotal year, with his Apple TV+ series "Slow Horses" continuing its success and rumors placing him among the finalists for the next James Bond. Before any 007 announcement, Lowden will portray Mr. Darcy in Netflix's new six-part "Pride and Prejudice" adaptation, premiering December 3, alongside Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet.
2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for actor Jack Lowden, marked by significant career milestones. His role in the popular Apple TV+ spy series, "Slow Horses," alongside Gary Oldman, has seen the show successfully wrap its sixth season, maintaining its high popularity. Further cementing its success, seasons 7 and 8 have already been secured, ensuring the continuation of the Slough House agents' narrative for years to come.
Beyond his established character River Cartwright, Lowden is also a prominent contender for an even more iconic role: James Bond. He is reportedly among four finalists, including Josh O'Connor and Callum Turner, vying to portray 007 in Denis Villeneuve's highly anticipated entry into the franchise, based on Ian Fleming's legendary novels.
However, before any potential 007 casting, Lowden is set to embody another literary icon: Mr. Darcy. Netflix has released the official trailer for its new six-part "Pride and Prejudice" series adaptation, scheduled to premiere on December 3. This adaptation promises a visually stunning, sun-drenched portrayal of Jane Austen's legendary 1813 novel, aiming to captivate viewers with its newest take on the classic romance.
The series stars Emma Corrin as the spirited Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as her proud gentleman love interest, Mr. Darcy. Billed as a faithful rendition of Austen's tale, the adaptation is penned by Dolly Alderton, author of "Everything I Know About Love," and directed by "Heartstopper" helmer Euros Lyn. The narrative will meticulously follow the pair as they navigate their journey from initial adversaries to eventual lovers against the intricate backdrop of 19th-century English society.
The footage teases the "chaotic" life of the five Bennet sisters and their "very animated mother," Mrs. Bennet, played by Olivia Colman. As wealthy bachelors come calling, the Bennet family navigates the complexities of love and societal expectations. At the core of the story are Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, who initially exchange barbs and clash, particularly as Darcy's friend, Mr. Bingley (Daryl McCormack), captures the attention of Elizabeth's sister, Jane (Freya Mavor). Despite their initial animosity, circumstances and unexpected encounters ultimately lead them to gravitate towards each other, with Elizabeth wrestling with her own feelings and the true nature of love.
Dolly Alderton, in a quote shared with Tudum, highlighted the enduring relevance of "Pride and Prejudice" in 2026, attributing it to the universal emotions depicted within the book. She stated, "The emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812. Embarrassment of your family, fear that you’re going to get left behind, fear that the world is not going to be a safe place for your children as it was for you, mortification that you judged someone incorrectly or that you had been misjudged. We go to that book to see our hearts reflected in it.”
The extensive cast further includes Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery make their debuts as Mary Bennet and Kitty Bennet, respectively. Additional cast members rounding out the ensemble include Anjana Vasan, Sebastian Armesto, Rosie Cavaliero, Saffron Coomber, James Dryden, Justin Edwards, James Northcote, Eloise Webb, and Isabella Sermon.
The series is executive produced by Emma Corrin, Laura Lankester, Dolly Alderton, Euros Lyn, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, with Lisa Osborne serving as producer. The much-anticipated "Pride and Prejudice" limited series is set to stream globally on Netflix, commencing December 3.
